Mottness induced superfluid phase fluctuation with increased density

چکیده

Recent observation of diminishing superfluid phase stiffness upon increasing carrier density in cuprate high-temperature superconductors is unexpected from the quantum density-phase conjugation superfluidity. Here, through analytic estimation and verified via variational Monte Carlo calculation an emergent Bose liquid, we point out that Mottness underlying carriers can cause a stronger fluctuation with density. This effect turns expected density-increased into dome shape, good agreement recent observation. Specifically, effective mass divergence due to "jamming" low-energy bosons reproduces observed nonlinear relation between transition temperature. Our results suggest new paradigm, which unconventional superconductivity some strongly correlated materials described by physics bosonic superfluidity, as opposed pairing-strength limited Cooper pairing.

Superfluid density and phase relaxation in superconductors with strong disorder.

We consider the attractive Hubbard model with on-site disorder as a prototype of a disordered superconductor. We solve the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations on two-dimensional finite clusters at zero temperature and evaluate the electromagnetic response to a vector potential. We find that the standard decoupling between transverse and longitudinal response does not apply in the presence of disorde...

Fluctuation Induced First Order Phase Transitions

We study a U(N) × U(N) symmetric scalar field model in four and three dimensions. First, using our data in four dimensions in the weak coupling region, we demonstrate explicitly that the observed first order phase transition is induced by quantum fluctuations. Next, based on the renormalization group and our new simulation results in three dimensions we argue that even if the UA(1) symmetry is ...

Local superfluid densities probed via current-induced superconducting phase gradients

We have developed a superconducting phase gradiometer consisting of two parallel DNA-templated nanowires connecting two thin-film leads. We have ramped the cross current flowing perpendicular to the nanowires, and observed oscillations in the lead-to-lead resistance due to cross-current-induced phase differences. By using this gradiometer we have measured the temperatureand magnetic-field depen...

Density of Superfluid Helium Droplets

The classical integral cross sections of large superfluid 4He N droplets and the number of atoms in the droplets (N = 103 − 104) have been measured in molecular beam scattering experiments. These measurements are found to be in good agreement with the cross sections predicted from density functional calculations of the radial density distributions with a 10–90% surface thickness of 5.7Å. By usi...

Critical Fluctuation - Induced Thinning of 4 He Films near the Superfluid Transition

We report dielectric constant measurements showing critical fluctuation-induced thinning of 4He films near the superfluid transition. The films are adsorbed on a stack of copper electrodes suspended at different heights above bulk liquid. We calibrate the measurements by assuming that the film thickness away from the transition region at different heights is accurately given by theory. The thin...
